Tick Prevention Tips
May 2, 2017
Did you notice that we had a mild winter? Sure, we got that unexpected storm toward the end; but overall, wasn't it nice? We love it when the winter is mild. There are fewer days of going out to the car and being unable to open the car door because it is frozen shut, fewer days of driving to work with only a tiny patch of clear window to see through, and fewer days of paying through the nose to heat our homes. But there is a downside to having a mild winter. When it is unseasonably warm during the winter, more bugs survive. One of those bugs is the tick.
If you just cringed. We understand. Of all the bugs in Massachusetts, the tick may be the one we least want to have survive the winter. Lyme disease is a serious problem. But, sadly, we are likely to see a bumper crop of ticks this season.
No problem, right? We'll just take some extra precautions. We'll tuck our socks into our pants and spray insect repellent on our ankles when we go outside. We'll wear light-colored clothing so we can see those ticks as they crawl up to find our skin. We'll make sure to check ourselves every time we come in because we know that it takes 24-48 hours for Lyme disease to transfer from ticks to humans. We'll also check our kids and our pets every time they come in. What? Why are you shaking your head? Is it because you know that we aren't likely to do any of these things? Tick prevention is a hard, isn't it? Well...not all tick prevention is hard.
When you have American Pest Solutions implement tick protection for your yard, and for your home, you can minimize your exposure to ticks without changing your habits or clothing options. If it is a hot day, you can go out into your backyard with shorts on. You don't have to wear bright yellow pants tucked into knee high socks. When your kids go outside, they don't have to be bathed in insect repellent. And, your pets can come and go as they please without having to be checked every time. Sure, it is a good idea to check them every once and awhile, but you won't be doing this all the time.
Tick prevention isn't just a quality of life upgrade; it is vital protection that your family deserves. And, let's be honest, it is a whole lot easier than trying to remember to protect yourself every time you go out into your yard--or every time you come back in.
