Are House Spiders Dangerous?
August 25, 2017
To most of the people, spiders are spiders, right? It doesn’t make a difference whether you are dealing with a daddy long-leg or a brown recluse. If it comes near you, you are going to freak out like it’s your last moment alive. Is the fear founded? Are house spiders dangerous, too?
What Are House Spiders?
The common house spider or American house spider gets its name from the place where it prefers to dwell - your home. This can be bad news if you have any fear of this eight-legged pest.
The house spider is only 5 to 8 mm long. These spiders are usually brown or grayish in color. One of the most distinctive features of the house spider is the dark chevrons along its body. The house spider does have eight eyes, but who wants to get that close to check?
House spiders prefer to feast on insects, so humans are off the menu.
Signs You Have House Spiders
The most obvious sign of infestation is seeing either the spider itself or the web it builds. Sometimes you will see remnants of the sac from the eggs. The spider’s eggs are brown in color and they resemble a flask. A single sac of eggs can have more than 200 eggs inside. If a female spider lays 17 sacs in her lifetime in your home, that means almost 3,000 to 4,000 eggs.
Are House Spiders Dangerous?
House spiders are not dangerous. They just make your anxiety spike, so they feel dangerous. But you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. No one wants to see spiders in their homes, no one wants them around their kids, and your friends definitely don’t want to spot a spider when you invite them over for dinner.

When you are dealing with house spiders, prevention and control methods are key. To prevent house spiders from infesting your home, put down the vinegar DIY trick and get a new plan that is actually effective.
