At American Pest Solutions, we believe that strong communities start with taking care of our neighbors. That's why we're proud to announce our recent $1,000 donation to the Westfield High School Community Closet, a vital resource that's making a real difference in the lives of local students.
What Is the WHS Community Closet?
The Westfield High School Community Closet is a lifeline for students in need. Founded nearly a decade ago by English teacher Jill Keenan, this 550-square-foot space provides free clothing, jackets, shoes, hygiene products, and school supplies to students from freshmen to seniors. The closet serves up to 15 students each day, with a special focus on those facing financial hardship or homelessness.
Students can browse, try on items, and take home what they need in a welcoming, judgment-free environment. The space was transformed by students themselves, who painted walls, installed new flooring and lighting, and even created beautiful Parisian-themed artwork above the entrance.
Going Beyond the Basics
What makes the Community Closet truly special is its comprehensive approach to student needs. In addition to everyday essentials, the program recently expanded to include "care bags" for students entering foster care. These include duffel bags filled with quality blankets, towels, and toiletries that provide comfort during one of life's most difficult transitions.
These thoughtful touches matter more than you might think. As one student shared, receiving name-brand quality items "makes a difference" and shows that the school cares. For young people facing uncertainty, these gestures of compassion can provide a sense of stability and normalcy.
