frequently asked pest control questions

Pest Control FAQs

How much does pest control cost?
At American Pest Solutions, our pest control services vary.  Factors to consider include the target pests, and the amount of area to be treated.  We'd be happy to schedule a no cost evaluation.

Are lengthy contracts required?
No, our pest control service agreements state that you may cancel service at any time with a 30 day written notice.

When I spray the ants, they just move. How can I kill them?
Sprays often just kill or disperse the ants you are seeing, those products don't address the real problem - the colony.  At American Pest Solutions, our experienced pest control technicians locate the colony first and then treat accordingly.  This ensures that both the foraging ants and the entire colony including the queen is eradicated.

Do carpenter ants eat wood?
No. Carpenter ants get no nutritional value from wood.  Rather they attack soft decaying wood  to create galleries.  This is where carpenter ants nest.  Termites, on the other hand, are wood destroying insects that do feed on wood. Both pests can cause extensive structural damage if left un-treated.

Do you use "toxic" chemicals in or around my home?
We use only EPA registered pesticides that are labeled for use in and around homes. We also use the least toxic pesticide that is available to control the targeted pest and apply it according to label directions.

What about my children and pets?
For lawn applications we can call before we come to treat the lawn so that you can keep kids and pets indoors until the products have dried on the lawn or have been watered in. For structures, pesticides are applied well away from children and pets in places such as cracks and crevices, behind heavy appliances, behind switch plates, underneath siding, etc. where insects hide and breed.  Our company policy is to keep people out of the treated are until it dries or for up to 2 hours. That is why we ask people to keep kids and pets inside the house while we perform our applications. It usually takes an hour or less for the spray to dry.

How many times do we have to treat the house?
Depending on the setting and target pest, the treatment may last about 3 months on the outside of a house. We schedule exterior treatments from late March thru late October.

Do I have to be home?
If we are treating just the outside of your house, you don’t have to be at home.  We simply ask that you make sure children or pet toys are away from the foundation structure.

Will it stain the siding or be hard to clean off of the windows?
The insecticide we use is mixed with water and does not stain. It isn't greasy and doesn’t leave a film. Any residue that may be seen is easy to clean off with common household soap and water.
